Dear Sir,

LORE OF THE LAW
AND
OTHER MEMORIES
by S.L. Gunasekera

I purchased a copy of the above titled book of yours on 05.12.2011 and wish to make the following comments.

1.           At page 15 the ‘Backwater’ named Udahamulla The Backwater is an erroneous meaning on the toponymy of the Sinhalese word Udahamulla. My source is an article published in the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka Journal Study our place names written by T.B. Weerakoon where he has introduced a table which gives the etymology of the Sinhalese words. Literarily Udahamulla means an ‘Upper Corner’ where the Sumangala Sinhalese Dictionary by Rev. Soratha would throw more light to the said word.

2.           You have heavily used Sinhala words in English. I wish if you would have used diacritical words to identify them properly in English.

3.           The photographs portrayed in the front cover and the back cover are not identified to the readership. I think some of the photographs are on your family whilst the rest of them are of the legal profession.

May I congratulate you on your magnum opus.

Thanking you.

Yours sincerely,

Hemantha Situge
