Read your article. According to you this tower is also called GALLE TOWER OR EDWARD'S PILLAR. It is also very clear that the tower we see today has been built by W. Burton in 1875 of the Public Works Department. However EDWARD'S PILLAR in Galle appear in documents published as back as 1861. How do you reconcile these 2 facts?
I believe Edwards Pillar is an altogether different older pillar standing at the top of Rumassala which has since disappeared.
